Rabbit Nutrition Made Simple

What to Feed Your Bunny (and What to Avoid)

A rabbit’s diet is all about balance, fibre, and keeping those ever-growing teeth in check 🐇. Here’s a breakdown of what makes a healthy, happy bunny meal plan:

🌾 Core Components of a Rabbit’s Diet

• Hay and Grass (85–90%)

This is the foundation. Rabbits need unlimited access to fresh hay—ideally timothy hay or other grass hays. It keeps their digestive system moving and wears down their teeth naturally.

• Leafy Greens and Herbs (10%)

Offer a daily mix of 5–6 types of safe, washed greens like:

• Kale, spinach, celery, cabbage

• Mint, parsley, rosemary

• Dandelion leaves and other wild greens

• Pellets (5%)

• Treats (Occasional Only)

Fruits and root vegetables (like carrots, bananas, berries) should be rare indulgences. Their sugar content can upset a rabbit’s sensitive gut.

• Water (Always Available)

Fresh, clean water is essential. Rabbits often prefer ceramic bowls, but drip bottles work too—just clean them daily.

🧠 Bonus Tips

• Avoid sudden diet changes—they can cause digestive upset.

• Never feed lawnmower clippings—they ferment quickly and can be harmful.
