So The Big Pet Census results are in...

As a lover of handheld pets, I was really interested to read the results of this. Around 50,000 people took part & it showed that 9% of people have a small pet which includes degus, chinchilla, gerbil, guinea pig, hamster, mouse & rat (sadly rabbits are not classed under the category as a 'small pet'). Of the small pets,

3.9% own guinea pigs

1.4% own hamsters (mostly Syrian type)

0.6% own rats

0.3% own gerbils

0.2% own chinchillas

0.1% own degus & mice

37% of owners in England talk about their small pet a few times per day (me included!) & in Wales 33%.
